Get Your Skin Glow On!

“The best cosmetic is great skin.”

Your skin is the largest and fastest growing organ of your body. It is responsible for holding you together (literally). It keeps the good stuff in and the bad stuff (germs) out. It is constantly renewing itself.

As we age, its ability to renew starts to slow down a bit and we start to see those little telltale signs of aging. Fine lines. Wrinkles. Sagging in places that never sagged before. It happens. Menopause comes along and all of a sudden, things seem to be moving a little faster. What’s a girl to do?

You can’t stop the aging process but you can take great care of your skin. A little TLC goes a long way to keep your skin healthy and vibrant at any age.

TLC For Glowing Skin

  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of 30 SPF or higher daily and on all exposed skin

  • Use gentle cleansers made for your skin type

  • Wash and exfoliate gently. Scrubbing will irritate your skin.

  • Shower in cooler water. Really hot water can be drying.

  • Avoid waxing if you find your skin is thinning. Waxing can create tears in thin skin that can be quite painful…and the hair is still there.

  • Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! One with hyaluronic acid or glycerin can be especially helpful

  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Hydrated skin is healthy skin

  • See a dermatologist regularly to screen for skin cancers & address skin conditions

  • Have any suspicious growths promptly removed. You will have peace of mind that you’re doing your best for your health.

A Little Extra Help

Sometimes, even the best skin care regime just isn’t enough. That’s when it’s time to call in the experts. Your dermatologist can assess your skin and offer options to rejuvenate and refresh your skin so you can look your glowing best. You’ll be amazed at what is available to women who want to take the extra step to care for their skin and appearance.

Here are some of the most common procedures to rejuvenate our skin:

Botox-  Short for botulinum toxin, Botox is injected into fine lines and wrinkles to smooth them out. Injections are relatively affordable. There are few risks and no recovery time. You can do it on your lunch break. The downside is the effect is temporary.

Fillers –These injectable materials can plump up areas of your face, diminish scars, reshape your lips and even fill in those deep lines near the corners of the mouth that only seem to deepen over time. Some types of fillers actually act as scaffolding for new collagen growth.

Chemical peels– A scary sounding name but actually a relatively easy procedure. Peels can be used to help diminish wrinkles, age spots, skin discolorations and more. An acid solution is applied to the skin, dissolving and removing the top layers. You can get home peel kits but in the case of aging skin, leave it to the pros.

Microdermabrasion - Your skin is gently sanded with tiny aluminum hydroxide crystals resulting in smoother skin. It’s not painful, it’s affordable and there’s no down time.

Laser therapy– Lasers are safe and popular for a variety of skin issues. They can remove moderate to deep lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone, texture, and tightness. Lasers are also great for treating certain birthmarks, spider veins and port-wine stains. There are even lasers that can sculpt problem areas where small pockets of fat collect. They can also erase scars and remove that tattoo of your ex that once was so cool. You can even laser off those pesky chin hairs that seem to show up uninvited.

Your skin’s needs are as unique as you are. Finding the right combination of treatments and maintaining a skin care routine are the best tools to keep that skin glowing and turning heads. Your friends will wonder what you’ve been doing.
